Free Speech
Along with Guy Otten from Manchester Humanists; I’ll be participating in a live on-line discussion this evening on the Muslim TV Channel ‘Ummah TV’ in Blackburn.
The chairman will be Mohammed Shafiq and we’ll be engaged in debate with an Imam and a Bishop … (sounds like the start of a joke – ‘there’s an Imam, a Bishop and a Humanist …‘).
I’ll let you know how it goes!

What a fascinating talk we had at this month’s meeting. Guy Otten from Greater Manchester Humanists came to talk to us about the mythology surrounding Islam. Provocative as you might imagine but he managed to provide us with a well balanced account supported by historical fact ( actually in many instances the lack of historical fact surrounding this religion and its prophet Muhammad). I was able to interview Guy prior to the meeting and also film the whole of his talk. Both of these will be appearing on our website very soon. The LSH September newsletter is out and as usual packed with plenty of good content.

Why didn’t someone grab the camera?
Or even lock the doors and call the police?
Ah yes! So easy to think of these things when you’re not actually there. I wonder how I would have reacted? I guess I would have been shocked and stunned and helpless like everyone else. Anyway – read the story.
A talk on sharia and human rights by NSS Council Member Anne Marie Waters at Queen Mary, University of London, was cancelled at the last moment because of an Islamist who made serious threats against everyone there.
Ms Waters was due to give a talk on behalf of the One Law for All campaign on 16 January but before it started, a man entered the lecture theatre, stood at the front with a camera and filmed the audience. He then said that he knew who everyone was, where they lived and if he heard anything negative about the Prophet, he would track them down.
The man also filmed students in the foyer and threatened to murder them and their families. On leaving the building, he joined a large group of men, apparently there to support him. Students were told by security to stay in the lecture theatre for their own safety
