About us

Lancashire Secular Humanists is a ‘county-wide’ group for people who describe themselves as atheists, agnostics, non-religious, humanists, secularists, rationalists, sceptics, or freethinkers.

We are affiliated to the British Humanist Association, which represents the interests of the growing population of ethically-concerned but non-religious people in the UK; and the National Secular Society, which challenges religious privilege and promotes separation of church and state.

Meetings and events

We meet once a month to discuss social, political, religious, philosophical, scientific, artistic and other issues, and often invite speakers who are experts in their fields. We also hold social events, visit places of mutual interest and run courses about Humanism.

Anyone is welcome to our meetings and events. You don’t have to be a member and you don’t have to be a Humanist or atheist or non-religious. We ask only that you respect the views of others and do not express discriminatory comments.

Humanism

Humanists assert that morality is founded in human nature itself. There are a huge number of good people who are living perfectly ethical lives without feeling the need to seek reassurance in religion. You can learn more about Humanism on one of our upcoming courses or reading publications from our recommended books and pamphlets on Humanism, Secularism and Atheism.

Secularism and campaigns

Committed to human rights, democracy, equality and mutual respect, LSH, along with the BHA and NSS, works for an open and inclusive society with freedom of belief and speech, and for an end to the privileged position of religion wherever it occurs.

We provide a resource for anybody in Lancashire to seek assistance, advice and support on any issues where they feel they are experiencing prejudice or need to make a stand against an example of religious privilege.

We take action on both local and national campaigns.

Ceremonies

The BHA is well known for its humanist funerals, weddings and baby-namings. We can provide local celebrants for your non-religious ceremonies.
